Local resident:

Transcript:

Ken: Do you think there are lots of tourists? And what is the impact on Cheung Chau’s environment?

Boss: Yes. There are lots of tourists today. I think there is negative impact on Cheung Chau’s environment. Local Hong Kong people will obey the rules. But Mainlanders will break the rules, for example, they will spit on the floor. It will affect Cheung Chau’s residents and Cheung Chau’s sanitation.

Ken: Have you ever thought about moving out to urban area?

Boss: No. Where can I go? The property prices in the city is very expensive and skyrocketing. I can’t afford it.

Kuen Kuen: Do you think that Cheung Chau can have better development?

Boss: I think it have already developed because there just a small island. It cannot be expaned more.

Kuen Kuen: you means there have been growing saturation?

Boss: Yes. For example, the road is narrow, people may get hurts easily when tourists ride a bike.

Kuen Kuen: Are you proud of Cheung Chau people?

Boss: No special feeling.

Kuen Kuen: Why?

Boss: No. I’m proud of that I’m a Hongkonger before 1997. Nowadays, our city turn to Chinese, many things have been changed. The government said that they willing to listen to the opinions of the society, but what did they do? They ignored public opinion. I hope you guys, the young people can change and save our society.
